An open-source demo of Server-Guided Ad Insertion — spin up a live Channel Engine source and SGAI proxy in one click, then trigger ad breaks on demand to explore HLS interstitials hands-on.
Apache 2.0 · Free & Open Source
SGAI is a hybrid approach to video ad insertion. The server signals when and where ad
breaks should occur — by injecting EXT-X-DATERANGE tags into the HLS manifest — while the
player independently fetches and renders the ad creatives from an asset list URL.
This gives you the best of both worlds: server-side ad decisioning and scheduling (like SSAI), combined with full client-side VAST 4.0 measurement and real-time personalization (like CSAI).
Based on Apple's HLS Interstitials specification, SGAI is natively supported in Safari and AVPlayer, and available in Chrome and Firefox via HLS.js v1.6+.

Two composable services — each open source, deployed and wired together in one click on OSC.
VOD2Live FAST channel engine. Loops a muxed VOD source into a continuous live HLS stream with EXT-X-PROGRAM-DATE-TIME tags for accurate ad slot timing.
Rust-based HTTP proxy that injects EXT-X-DATERANGE interstitial tags into the HLS manifest on demand. A /command API triggers ad breaks with a pre-packaged HLS test asset.
HLS.js v1.6+ or AVPlayer detects the interstitial tag, fetches the pre-packaged HLS ad asset, plays it, then resumes the live stream seamlessly.
HLS InterstitialsEvery component is open source and available as a managed service on Open Source Cloud.
VOD2Live FAST channel engine that loops a muxed VOD source into a continuous live HLS stream. Produces a valid master.m3u8 with EXT-X-PROGRAM-DATE-TIME tags and muxed audio — everything the SGAI proxy needs to inject interstitials accurately.
Rust-based HTTP reverse proxy that sits in front of the Channel Engine and injects EXT-X-DATERANGE interstitial tags on demand. A /command API triggers ad breaks with configurable lead time and duration, serving a pre-packaged HLS test asset to the player.
Sign in, pick a name, hit Create. OSC spins up a live demo pipeline and hands you a stream URL to play with immediately.
Channel Engine and SGAI proxy deployed and wired from a single name input. No config files, no infrastructure — just a live stream URL.
Use the debug player's "Trigger Ad" button or hit the /command API directly to inject an ad break into the live stream whenever you want.
Every component is Apache 2.0 licensed. Run the same stack locally, inspect the code, or extend it for your own integration.
No fixed costs. Delete the pipeline when you're done exploring and billing stops immediately.
Spin up the pipeline, trigger ad breaks, and explore how SGAI works end to end.
